We received ballots from readers across the Abingtons both by mail and online telling us who you felt was the “best” in our area in a variety of categories. All of us at the Abington Suburban would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote; it is thanks to you that we know who you feel is the “best of the best.”
If shopping’s your thing, the best accessory store honors went to Everything Natural, while the best consignment store was Jackson and Jill and the best place to buy gifts was the Waverly General Store. Talbot’s was named the best clothing store and the best jeweler is The Jewelry Room. The best shoe store is Sole to Soul and the best source for antiques is the Goodwill. Eagle Cleaners was named the best cleaners. The best specialty food store is Caravia while the best health food can be found at Everything Natural. Crown Beverage won for both best customer service and best beer distributor.
Diana Lombardi of the Abington Art Studio was named the best artist in the Abingtons. White’s was named the best florist, while Corky’s Garden Path was named best garden center. Readers once again voted the Clarks Summit Festival of Ice as best festival and Hillside Park as best community park. The best non-profit, once again, was Marley’s Mission. Expressions by Elizabeth Nichols was named best wedding photographer and the best travel agent was Abington Travel. EJ the DJ was named best professional party deejay.
If you’re looking for a good place to stash your cash, PNC Bank was once again named best bank and NE Financial Company was named best financial service. Diane Calabro was named best realtor. Ron Leas Nationwide Insurance was named best insurance agent.
If food’s your thing, the best Asian restaurant is Atami Sushi while the best Italian restaurant is Bazil. The best bakery honors went to The Mad Batter. The best breakfast restaurant is The Gourmet and the best brunch restaurant is Patsel’s. The best lunch restaurant is Damon’s, which readers also said was the best place to dine with kids. The best burger can be found at MyGirls Cafe, which also won the award for best new eatery. Dino and Francesco’s brought home the honors for best pasta, best wings and best cheese steak. Nickie’s Fabulous Hoagies won the award for best hoagie/sub. Formosa was named the best caterer and Gerrity’s was named the best grocery store.
The Gourmet restaurant won the award for best diner and Jack Franko from Stonehedge was named best chef. Patti Theiss of The Gourmet was named best server. Readers chose the State Street Grill as the Abingtons’ best restaurant.
The best dessert can be found at the Silver Spoon Diner and both the best coffee and best specialty coffee can be found down the street at Duffy’s Coffee House. The best pizza is at Rosario’s and the best ice cream is at Manning’s.
The friendliest bar in the Abingtons according to readers is McGrath’s, which is the home of the best bartender, Joe McGrath, and the best place for live music. The best bar food can be found at the State Street Grill.
Formosa won both the best romantic restaurant and best wine selection categories.
If you’re looking to get fit, the best fitness center in the Abingtons was, once again, Brown’s Gym. The best yoga and pilates can be found at Jaya Yoga, while the best golf course is Summit Hills Golf Course. The best place for a family fun night out is Lahey Family Fun Park.
ProActive Family Chiropractic was again named best chiropractor and CVS was named best pharmacy. Clarks Summit Senior Living was named best senior living facility. The best day carte center is Daydreamers.
The best hair salon honors went to Sanderson State Street and the best barber shop honors went to Jake’s. CoCo Salon and Spa won the award for best nail salon. Abington Pet Groomers was named best pet groomer.
The best auto repair shop was Dixon Automotive and the best new-car dealer is Burne Honda. The best used-car dealer is Cars-R-Us. LaCoe Construction was named best contractor, Billy Hricenak was named best electrician and Eric Salerno was once again named best plumber.
Danyel Lindaman of South Abington Elementary was named best elementary school teacher, while Michael Freidlin of Abington Heights Middle School was named best middle school teacher. Marilyn Pryle of Abington Heights High School was named best high school teacher and Abington Heights High School football coach Joe Repshis was named best high school coach.
