Ava Alexander of Dalton and Thomas Rundell of South Abington Township were both named to the Cum Laude Society, the national academic honor society for college preparatory schools, at Wyoming Seminary. Alexander was also named a National Merit Finalist in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Competition.
Ali Alhamdan of Clarks Summit was part of the third-place team in the collegiate track at the TecBridge Business Plan Competition. The competition is a regional event designed to stimulate innovative thinking to leverage a technology-driven economy, while retaining the region’s talent. Alhamdan’s team’s project, Step In It, is in talks with angel investors for a possible launch.
Tessa Barrett of Waverly was inducted into the National Honor Society for the PA Leadership Charter School.
Dalton Coldwater of Clarks Summit was recently inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for community colleges, at Lackawanna College in Scranton.
Brandon Conniff of Clarks Summit was recently named a freshmen facilitator with Kutztown University’s Connections Freshmen Orientation Program.
Mary Katherine Crowley and Michael Vincent Nole, both of Clarks Summit, were recently inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines, at Kutztown University.
Christopher Ferrario of South Abington Township was recently nominated to the United States Air Force Academy.
Erin Foley of Clarks Summit, a business administration major in the School of Business at Ithaca College, was recently inducted into the American Marketing Association’s Alpha Mu Alpha international honorary marketing fraternity.
Isabel Hou of Clarks Summit and Riley Calpin of Waverly were both named to the honor roll at Wyoming Seminary Lower School.
Samuel Kontz of Clarks Summit was recently nominated to the United States Naval Academy and United States Air Force Academy.
Theresa Macknosky of South Abington Township, recently received a Frank O’Hara medal from the University of Scranton for academic achievement for her sophomore year. She participates in the university’s licensed practical nurse to a bachelor’s degree program. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau (the international honor society for nursing) and Alpha Sigma Lambda (the adult undergraduate student honor society) and is a recipient of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation Scholarship. Macknosky is a co-founder of the Scranton Macintosh Users Group. She has also volunteered at numerous organizations in the community.
Brittney Martin of Clarks Summit received the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Award from Millersville University.
Michael Parry of Clarks Green and Kevin Schumacher and Jessica Yachwak, both of Clarks Summit, were all awarded scholarships at Alvernia University. Parry was awarded the $16,000 Presidential Scholarship to study Political Science. Schumacher was awarded the $16,00 Presidential Scholarship to study Accounting and Yachwak was awarded the $12,000 Veronica Founder’s Scholarship to study Nursing.
Brandon Perigard of Clarks Summit recently traveled to Peru as a part of Stonehill College’s annual H.O.P.E. Alternative Spring Break Program. Perigard volunteered with other Stonehill students for the Yancana Huasy Project, which is a Congregation of Holy Cross missionary outreach program. It attends to children and their families who live with physical and mental challenges, including Down syndrome and other
Robert Pinches of Clarks Summit was recently inducted into Providence College’s chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the national honor society for pre-medical studies. Pinches, a member of the class of 2016, is pursuing a degree in biology. Pinches also spent his 2014 spring break working for Habitat for Humanity in Vineland, N.J.
