It's always on his mind - the music, that is.
"I'm always doing something related to it or thinking about it," said Clarks Summit native Ryan Brown. "Whether I'll be working on new songs, playing guitar, booking shows or doing web design, there's more than enough things to occupy my time with. I still do things that are unrelated to music to get by, but I try not to focus on that."
Brown now lives in Nashville, Tenn., where he works as a full-time musician, writing and performing original songs. He is now working on an album that he hopes to release in the near future.
Brown credits his upbringing in the Abingtons with influencing his musical style.
"Growing up in the Abingtons had a huge impact on the person I am and the kind of music I am making," he said. "At first, it was a town to grow up and get out of, and I tend to write a lot about searching for things or the journey of it all. Those songs come directly from my experiences there."
"Lately, I've been writing about a lot of past events and I look back to where I came from and always seem to work something from then into what I am working on," he continued. "It was just a really nice place to be a kid and to fall in love with music, at least that's how I feel now."
Brown explained that he moved to Nashville following his graduation from Boston's Berklee College of Music because it is a musically vibrant place where people are constantly honing their craft. He credits the city's energy with pushing him forward on his own journey.
"My ultimate goal is a combination of touring, recording, writing and pushing myself to do better at all of those things," he said. "I'm always trying to be better at guitar and that keeps me occupied. I also want to reach people through my music. I want to make music for as many people as possible and I mean that in the most sincere and pure way."
Brown's 2011 release, "The Trail," is available through iTunes. For more information, or to keep up-to-date with his performance schedule, visit www.ryanharrisbrown.com.
