The Waverly Community House, 1115 N. Abington Road, will host several weekly tennis clinics as well as private and semi-private lessons for children and adults and a series of tennis nights.
Tennis clinics will be held weekdays, from Monday, June 30, through Friday, Aug. 8, with the exception of Friday, July 4. Beginners clinics will be held from 1-2 p.m., advanced beginners clinics will be held from 2-3 p.m. and intermediate clinics will be held from 3-4 p.m. This year’s instructor is Ken Doolittle (pictured), a certified tennis coaching professional who played for Abington Heights High School and who will begin playing for Marywood University this fall. Doolittle has been teaching at Birchwood Tennis Club since 2011, and has run and assisted with clinics and lessons at Valley Tennis Club, Glen Oak Country Club and Waynewood Tennis Courts.
Friday family tennis nights will be offered on Friday, June 27 and Friday, Aug. 8 from 6-8 p.m. These two-hour tennis clinics are for children ages 4-14 who want to learn how to play tennis along with their parents or guardians. Family tennis nights will be instructed by Kelly and Josh Arp, Baptist Bible College tennis team coaches. In the event of rain, the Friday clinics will be held in the Comm gymnasium.
Private and semi-private lessons, in partnership with Birchwood Tennis Club and instructor Ken Doolittle, will be offered from Monday, June 23, through Friday, Aug. 22. In the event of rain, private lessons may be given at Birchwood.
