All the frivolity will be in one location this Saturday, Oct. 26, as the Abington Business and Professional Association (ABPA) hosts its annual "Fall Fun in the Abingtons" in downtown Clarks Summit.
"Fall Fun in the Abingtons" was originally conceived as a way to celebrate the coming of fall. Originally held over several weeks in October, organizers decided to consolidate the event to one weekend this year to make it more accessible to the public.
"The biggest difference is that the event is happening in one place as opposed to two places," said ABPA spokeswoman Laura Ancherani. "In the past, we've done the carnival at the church and the carving of the pumpkins and other activities were in town. This year, it is also on the same weekend, as opposed to two weekends."
All of the events that were originally held at the site of the Heritage Baptist Church in Clarks Green will now be held at the Clarks Summit Borough Building, 304 S. State St. Heritage Baptist Church will continue to sponsor the event's hay rides, as well as fall treats. Ken Pollock Volvo and Summit Frameworks are the event's sponsors while Citizens Savings Bank is sponsoring the entertainment and Biondi Franklin Insurance is sponsoring the pony rides.
"It is more for them to see all at one time and more for them to do all at one time," said ABPA president Barry Kaplan. "Some people wanted to do the pony rides and the family stuff but couldn't take two weekends, now they will be able to enjoy all of it."
A children's parade in Clarks Summit will step off at noon and trick-or-treating throughout the borough will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A full schedule of events, as well as a map of participating locations, can be found on page 8. For an updated event list, visit www.theabingtons.org.
