The 19th annual Christy Mathewson Days celebration will take place on Friday, Aug. 8, and Saturday, Aug. 9, in both in Factoryville and at Keystone College’s LaPlume campus. The festivities are held each year to honor Keystone alumnus, Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher and Factoryville native Christy Mathewson.

Organizers say that this year’s event will feature a variety of family-oriented activities, including Saturday’s traditional “Big Six” 6K run/walk and one-mile fun run; the Christy Mathewson Day Parade and activities at Christy Mathewson Park in Factoryville.

A full schedule of this year’s activities follows:

Friday, Aug. 8

• A Christy Mathewson memorabilia collection will open in Keystone College’s Gambal Athletic Center lobby at noon and will remain on display until 5 p.m.

• Participants will attend the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders baseball game at PNC Park in Moosic. Call 570-945-8169 for tickets. Game begins at 7 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 9 A Christy Mathewson memorabilia collection will open in Keystone College’s Gambal Athletic Center lobby at 7 a.m. and will remain on display until 5 p.m.

• Registration for the “Big 6” run/walk and fun run will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the Keystone College Green.

• One-mile fun run will begin at 8 a.m. on the Keystone College Green.

• “Big 6” run/walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the Keystone College Green, followed by an awards presentation at 9 a.m. and a breakfast for race participants, courtesy of Keystone College.

• The annual Christy Mathewson parade will begin at 5 p.m. at Keystone College.

• Evening events, including food, games and award presentations, will begin at 6 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Park, located behind the Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center, 179 College Ave., Factoryville.
