Saturday, Aug. 31: Chicken Barbecue
The Chinchilla Hose Co. will host its annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 1-6 p.m at the fire house, 104 Shady Lane Road. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6.50 for children age 10 and younger.

Saturday, Aug. 31: Spaghetti Dinner
The Endless Mountains Pilot's Association will host its annual all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 2-6 p.m. at Seaman's Airport, Windsock Lane and Seamans Road, Factoryville. Tickets are $8; $4 for children age 10 and younger.

Monday, Sept. 2: Bull Roast
The Waverly United Methodist Church, 105 Church St., will host its 44th annual Labor Day bull roast on Monday, Sept. 2, from 1-5 p.m. The roast will consist of beef, boiled seasoned potatoes, corn on the cob, rolls, baked beans, applesauce and assorted pies and treats. Beverages will also be available. Tickets are $12.50; $6 for children younger than 10. Take-outs are available. Ten percent of the proceeds go to the church's missions fund.
Saturday, Sept. 7: Suicide Prevention Walk
The "Share the Journey" Suicide Prevention Walk, sponsored by the Northeast Suicide Prevention Initiative, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, beginning at 9 a.m. at Courthouse Square in Scranton.

The school real estate tax bills for the Abington Heights School District have been mailed to Clarks Green, Clarks Summit, Glenburn, Newton Township, North Abington Township, Ransom Township, South Abington Township and Waverly property owners.
Taxpayers are entitled to a 2 percent discount if their tax bill is paid by Monday, Sept. 30. Full payment is due by Saturday, Nov. 30. After that date, a 10 percent penalty is imposed for late payments. All bills not paid in full by Tuesday, Dec. 31, will be referred for collection to Portnoff Law Assosciates, Ltd., P.O. Box 3020, Norristown, PA 19404-3020.
For taxpayers choosing to pay in three installments, the deadlines are Sunday, Sept. 15, Thursday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 30.

Clarks Green Shade Trees
The Clarks Green Shade Tree Commission is seeking to assist borough residents by providing free or low-cost trees for resident properties. The commission is also looking for volunteers for plantings, scheduled in November and April, as well as attendees for its monthly meetings. Serving Seniors Inc. is seeking dedicated and caring people of all ages to provide friendly visits and companionship to residents in long term care and personal care homes within Lackawanna County. Used Clothing Drop Off Shed
The Church of the Epiphany, 25 Church Hill Road, Glenburn, is sponsoring a used clothing drop off shed, which is located in the church parking lot. All clothing, sneakers, shoes, belts, purses, blankets, sheets, pillowcases, drapes and stuffed toys will be accepted.
Organizers are asking that no rags, fabric scraps, pillows, toys or household goods be placed in the shed. Donations will not be cut up or shredded.
The items will be sent to people who can use them either in the United States or internationally.
Donations are tax deductable and receipts are located on the shed. If possible, please place items in tied or closed bags.

The Lakeside Pavilion at the Abington Area Community Park, located at the intersection of Winola Road and Grove St., is available for rentals.
