Northeast Vegetable Growers: Thursday, Jan. 21, is the registration deadline for the Northeast Vegetable Growers meeting on Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Co. on the Newton-Ransom Blvd.
The meeting will start at 8:45 a.m. with registration and end at 3 p.m.
The $18 reservation fee (includes lunch) should be mailed to Lackawanna County Extension, 200 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18503. Registration at the door is $25.

South Abington Tree Collection: South Abington Township will collect holiday trees on Saturday, Jan. 23.
Residents are asked to place trees without bags at the curb Friday night, Jan. 22.

KidsMusic at Comm: The Waverly Community House will offer a 10-week semester of KidsMusic with Karen Kane in the Scout Room on Tuesday mornings beginning Feb. 9. Registration is open to tots between 18 months and 4 years. The fee is $110, which includes tuition, registration fee and materials to make music at home. Book-to-Film Series: A new book-to-film series begins at the Abington Community Library, 1200 W. Grove St., Clarks Summit. Facilitated by Pete Chapla and Sue Curtin, the “Home Away from Home” series starts Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 6-9 p.m. with a discussion of Thomas Mann’s “Death in Venice” and viewing the Luchino Visconti film. The series is underwritten by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.

Abington Parents Read: Abington Parents Read, a collaborative effort between the Abington Community Library and teachers from Abington Heights School District, begins this month.
Hosted by the Abington Community Library, 1200 W. Grove St., Clarks Summit, five different one-hour book discussions will be voluntarily facilitated by the Abington Heights English/reading teachers teaching the books.

Career Fair Help Needed: Abington Heights High School, 222 Noble Road, will conduct a career fair on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Community Classroom Survey: Want to learn how to fly fish but don’t know anyone to show you how?
How about self-defense, photography or cooking? Parenting? Bird watching?
The possibilities abound.
A five-question survey, available at the Abington Community Library, 1200 W. Grove St., Clarks Summit, is being used to gauge interest in community-based continuing education. The deadline for completed questionnaires is the Jan. 31.

Wyoming County Reads: What was the Great Depression really like? “Wyoming County Reads: One County, One Book, One Play” will bring to life the Great Depression and the resilience of those who lived through it, through reading, discussion, photography, displays and a performance of the Frank Galati play based on John Steinbeck’s novel, “The Grapes of Wrath.”

Camp Kestrel: Alliance Landfill will present a Camp Kestrel habitat workshop on Saturday, Feb. 13.
The free workshop will include birdhouse building, a landfill site tour, wildlife presentations, a low-litter lunch and information about recycling, composting and conserving resources.
The camp is recommended for children age 8 and older. Reservations are required.

Attic Shop Hours: The Attic Shop, an upscale consignment shop, has reopened after renovations.

Seeking Volunteers: Clarks Summit Borough is looking for volunteers willing to be a member of its zoning hearing board.
The board generally meets once a month to hear zoning appeals or variance requests. Volunteers must live in the borough. While the position is not paid, borough manager Virginia Kehoe said it offers “a great way” for people to give to the community. For more information, call Kehoe at 586-9316.

SADD Collecting Cell Phones: Abington Heights High School Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) are collecting cell phones at the high school. All cell phones are cleared and programmed with 911 for use by the elderly. The phones may be dropped off in the main office of the high school.
