Baptist Bible College and Seminary will present Mary Chase’s comedy, “Harvey,” from Thursday, Feb. 27, through Saturday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Phelps Student Center. The play features Elwood P. Down, a man who has an imaginary friend named Harvey, a six-foot, three-and-a-half-inch tall rabbit. Elwood’s eccentricities drive his sister, Veta, to the edge of despair when he insists on introducing his unseen companion to guests at her society party. At the end of her rope, she decides to have Elwood committed. When Veta tries to explain the situation to the doctors at the sanitarium, confusion causes her to be committed instead.

Through Saturday, March 1: Veteran Services
Marywood University’s Office of Military and Veteran Services will offer a Renewal-Veteran Education and Transition Services (R-VETS) program, which
is focused on providing college access to community veterans interested in post-secondary education. Military members and veterans in the local community can take free introductory courses in the areas of math, English and writing, along with other transitional services. Current Marywood student veterans and those who have already been accepted to Marywood, but are struggling in these areas, will also have the opportunity to join this program.
The deadline for applications for the spring semester is Saturday, March 1. The spring semester will begin on Tuesday, March 18, and will run for eight weeks. The classes are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m., on campus. There is no cost to veteran students for this program and all supplies will be provided through donations. Space is limited to fifteen students per semester.
To be eligible to participate in the R-VETS program, applicants must have been honorably discharged or presently serving in the military. A high school diploma or GED is required. In order to maximize GI Bill benefits, this program will not use any Veterans’ Affairs education benefits to ensure the veteran has full entitlement once enrolled in post-secondary education.
Students who complete the R-VETS program will receive a certificate of completion. This certificate can be submitted as additional supporting documentation if the student chooses to apply for admission to Marywood University.

The Waverly Preschool, located at the Waverly Community House, 1115 N. Abington Road, is accepting registrations for the 2014-2015 school year. Income Tax Assistance
Abington-area individuals, families and senior citizens with a household income of less than $51,000 can receive free assistance in completing and filing their federal, state and local tax returns through the University of Scranton’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties.
Appointments are available at the Clarks Summit Fire Hall on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 3-7 p.m. To schedule an appointment online, visit the United Way’s website at www.uwlc.net. Beginning in February, walk-in, no appointment required tax service is also available through this program at Brennan Hall at the University of Scranton on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesdays from noon to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. No tax preparation service will be offered from Thursday, March 13, through Monday, March 24. The regular schedule resumes on March 25. Appointments are also available in Taylor, Peckville, Honesdale, Hawley, Carbondale, Forest City and Moscow.
Tax clients need to bring valid photo identification, all W2 forms, 1099 documents (interest, dividends, pensions), Social Security numbers or individual tax identification numbers (ITIN) for yourself and all dependents including children, completed W-7 documents as appropriate, last year’s return (optional, but helpful), any records relating to income and expenses, personal bank account information (for direct deposit in bank account with electronic filing) and real estate tax receipts (if applicable).

The University of Scranton’s Weinberg Memorial Library is requesting book and tag sale donations for its annual spring book sale, as well as volunteers to help with preparation and staffing for the event, which will take place during the last weekend of April. All proceeds from the book sale benefit the Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library Endowment, which supports library collections and services.
Donations may be placed in the boxes on the Monroe Avenue side of the library, and will be accepted until Wednesday, April 23.
This year’s book sale is scheduled for Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, April 27, from noon until 4 p.m., in the fifth floor Heritage Room of the Weinberg Memorial Library. The Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library, the library staff and volunteers will conduct the event. Book prices begin at $1 in addition to specialty priced items.

Garbage Collection Notice
Garbage collection days will be delayed one day in the following weeks that include major holidays for residents of South Abington Twp.:

Vintage Pleat Hours
The Vintage Pleat at the Attic Shop, located on the lower level of the Waverly Community House, 1115 N. Abington Road, has announced its hours for this year’s season. The Oppenheim Family Children’s Center at Keystone College is accepting new enrollees. Located on Keystone’s campus in La Plume, the program offers several preschool program options for children three to five years old. Children must be three years old by Sept. 1 to participate. Used Clothing Drop Off Shed
The Church of the Epiphany, 25 Church Hill Road, Glenburn, is sponsoring a used clothing drop off shed, which is located in the church parking lot. All clothing, sneakers, shoes, belts, purses, blankets, sheets, pillowcases, drapes and stuffed toys will be accepted.
Organizers are asking that no rags, fabric scraps, pillows, toys or household goods be placed in the shed. Donations will not be cut up or shredded.
