Thanks to a student-led initiative at the Waverly Elementary School, students now have the opportunity to make new friends and try new things while on the playground. A “Buddy Bench” and “Buddy Fence” are now available to students during recess. Whether students are having a difficult time connecting with other students, want to meet new people or try something different, they can go to this marked area and students will invite them to join in their game or activity. The areas of the playground are marked with signs to indicate where students should go in the event they would like to take advantage of this resource. School officials hope that this initiative will further strengthen the positive climate that currently exists at Waverly Elementary School and that it will serve as a resource for students who may be looking to enrich their social experience.
