The NEPA Wildcats 18 and younger fastpitch softball organization will host tryouts for its fall 2014/summer 2015 team on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at Marvine Dutch Gap in Scranton. Community Fair

The University of Scranton’s Class of 2018 will host a free “Back to School Bonanza” for children ages three to 12 on Sunday, Aug. 24, from 2-4 p.m., at Courthouse Square in Scranton. The event will include face painting, music, a bouncy house, refreshments, prizes, lawn games and other activities. The event is co-hosted by the university’s Center for Student Engagement, the Center for Service and Social Justice and the Office of Community Relations in partnership with community partners, namely Lackawanna County, Scranton School District, state Rep. Chicken Barbecue

The Chinchilla Hose Co., 104 Shady Lane Road, will be host its annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 30, from noon to 5 p.m. Drive-thru pick-up and eat-in options are available. Tickets are $10 and are available by calling the fire house at 570-586-5726 or by emailing chcstation2@comcast.net. Advance sales are highly recommended as only a limited amount of tickets will be available at the door. All proceeds will benefit the operation and needed equipment of the Chinchilla Hose Co. of South Abington Township.

Pizza and Mum Sale

The Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Drive, Newton Twp., will host its annual pizza and mum sale on Saturday, Sept. 6, with orders due by Sunday, Aug. 31. Pick up times will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Ready-to-bake pizza options include plain for $10 or pepperoni for $12. Both pizzas are available with or without onions.
