Borough Clean Up
The Abington Business and Professional Association (ABPA), in conjunction with Clarks Summit Borough, will host a borough-wide clean up on Saturday, April 12, beginning at 9 a.m., rain or shine. Individuals interested in participating are asked to meet at the Clarks Summit Borough Building, 304 S. State St. The primary focus will be State Street, but additional areas will be considered depending on the amount of volunteers present. Volunteers are asked to bring brooms, rakes or anything to assist in clean up efforts. Call ABPA president Gail Rees at 570-587-0505 for more information.
Signups for the Abington Junior Comets football team and cheerleading squad will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Abington Heights Field House, 222 Noble Road, Clarks Summit. Registration may also be done online at abingtonjuniorcomets.com.
The Family Ministries committee of the Factoryville United Methodist Church, 162 College Ave., will host a cookie walk and fancy treats sale on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out. The ladies auxiliary of the Dalton Fire Co. will host am all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner at the fire hall, located at 109 S. Turnpike Road, on Saturday, April 12, from 4-7 p.m. Menu will include spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, roll, beverage and dessert. Tickets are $8; $5 for children ages 5-12 and free for children younger than 5. Take-outs will be available.
The ladies auxiliary of the Dalton Fire Co. will host bingo games on Monday, April 14, and Monday, April 28, at the fire hall, located at 109 S. Turnpike Road. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and games will begin at 6:45 p.m.
The Waverly Community Church, 101 Carbondale Road, will host a free egg hunt, puppet play and craft hour for children younger than 12 years old on Saturday, April 19, from 10-11 a.m. The Waverly Community Church is also inviting people to its Good Friday services on Friday, April 18, at 7 p.m. and its Resurrection Worship Service on Sunday, April 20, at 11 a.m. Call 570-587-2280 for more information.
Easter Egg Hunt
The South Abington Lions Club and the Chinchilla Hose Co. are co-sponsoring an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 10 a.m., at the South Abington Recreation Park, 640 Northern Blvd. All children age 10 and younger are invited. In the event of inclement weather, the egg hunt will be moved inside the Chinchilla Hose Co., 104 Shady Lane Road.
Sign Language Classes
The Scranton School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children, 537 Venard Road, South Abington Twp., will host a six-week course in American Sign Language on Wednesday evenings from April 23 through May 28. According to organizers, participants will develop basic finger spelling, vocabulary and grammar skills. The course fee is $65, payable when registration is submitted. Cash and checks, made payable to the Scranton School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children, are the only accepted form of payment. Members of the Abington Memorial Post No. 7069 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars are asking any groups or individuals who would like to participate in the annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 26, beginning at 11 a.m., should call the post at 570-586-9821 daily after 1 p.m. to join the line of march.
The following is a list of events taking place at the Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Drive, Newton Twp.
• Bible study is held on Monday mornings at 10 a.m., followed by a prayer group at 11:30 a.m.
• The “Pins and Needles” sewing group meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 15.
• Choir rehearsal is held on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. from September through May.
Holy week services will begin on Sunday, April 13, with a service at 10 a.m., followed by refreshments at 11 a.m. A Maundy Thursday service will be held of Thursday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. A cross walk will be held on Good Friday, April 18, at 11 a.m. and on Easter Sunday, April 20, a sunrise service by church youth will be held at 6 a.m. and a service will be held at 10 a.m.
