Sean Quinn Benefit
A benefit for Sean Quinn, who was recently diagnosed with colon cancer, will be held on Sunday, March 23, from 1-4 p.m. at the Clarks Summit Fire Co., 321 Bedford St., Clarks Summit. Gift baskets, a 50/50 raffle, a coffee bar and a bake sale will be part of the afternoon’s events. Tickets are $5, which will help offset Quinn’s medical bills and expenses. The Catholic Choral Society will host two free concerts to mark the Lenten season. The Voluntary Action Center (VAC), 538 Spruce St., Scranton, was recently awarded a grant to help seniors age 60 and older enroll in SNAP, formerly food stamps. Officials say that the Senior SNAP Enrollment Initiative Grant will increase the enrollment of senior citizens residing in Lackawanna County in the SNAP program and that approximately two out of three senior citizens who qualify to receive SNAP are missing out on benefits. Senior citizens who have an income at or below $1,916 for single individuals or $2,585 for married couples and resources under $9,000, excluding primary home, vehicle and other itens, could qualify for SNAP benefits.
