Yoga Benefit Class

Katy Bills and Jeff Brozena of Jaya Yoga Studio will host a benefit yoga class on Sunday, Feb. 2, from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Gathering Room of Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit. The class will be a slow flow yoga class set to Tabla music and will be donation-based, with all donations benefitting the Russell Children Memorial Fund. The Russell children lost their father shortly before Christmas, leaving them without either parent.

Valentine’s Workshop

The Family Fun Committee of the Waverly Community House, 1115 N. Abington Road, is hosting its annual Valentine’s Open House Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the auditorium. Activities will include crafts, card making, games and cookie decorating. A $5 donation per family will be accepted at the door to cover supplies. Book Club Meeting

The Mysteries and Detectives Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Abington Community Library, 1200 W. Grove St., Clarks Summit. This month’s selection will be a reader’s choice of any of Erle Stanley Gardner’s “Perry Mason” stories. The author for March will be Spencer Quinn.

Income Tax Assistance

Abington-area individuals, families and senior citizens with a household income of less than $51,000 can receive free assistance in completing and filing their federal, state and local tax returns through the University of Scranton’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne

Counties.

Appointments are available at the Clarks Summit Fire Hall on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 3-7 p.m. To schedule an appointment online, visit the United Way’s website at www.uwlc.net. Beginning in February, walk-in, no appointment required tax service is also available through this program at Brennan Hall at the University of Scranton on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesdays from noon to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. No tax preparation service will be offered from Thursday, March 13, through Monday, March 24. The regular schedule resumes on March 25. A “Super Sunday” is scheduled to kick-off the tax season at Brennan Hall on Sunday, Feb. 2 with appointments available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Appointments are also available in Taylor, Peckville, Honesdale, Hawley, Carbondale, Forest City and Moscow.

Tax clients need to bring valid photo identification, all W2 forms, 1099 documents (interest, dividends, pensions), Social Security numbers or individual tax identification numbers (ITIN) for yourself and all dependents including children, completed W-7 documents as appropriate, last year’s return (optional, but helpful), any records relating to income and expenses, personal bank account information (for direct deposit in bank account with electronic filing) and real estate tax receipts (if applicable).
