‘Cactus Flower’: Several Abington-area residents perform in the comedy “Cactus Flower” at Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Road, Scranton, on March 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14.

Waverly Chicken, Biscuit Dinner: Waverly United Methodist Church, 103 Church St., Waverly, will hold a chicken and biscuit dinner with dessert on Saturday, March 6.
Takeout will begin at 4 p.m. with the dinner served from 5-7 p.m.

‘Night at the Races’: Our Lady of the Snows and Church of St. Benedict will sponsor a “Night at the Races” in the gym of Our Lady of Peace School, 410 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, on Saturday, March 6. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the first race at 7:30 p.m.
The cost is $10 in advance; $15 at the door. Price includes buffet dinner, beverages and door prizes; BYOB. Participants must be 21 or older to attend. The cost to own a horse to run in the race is $10. If horse wins race, the winner claims $50.

Lenten Series: Area Catholic parishes will three Sunday evenings of reflection during Lent from 7-8:30 p.m. March 7, 14 and 21 in the Gathering Room on the lower level of Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit.

‘Grapes of Wrath’: Frank Galati’s play of “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck will be performed March 10-14 at the Wyoming County Cultural Center at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock.
Tickets are $10 and are available at the Dietrich Theater ticket booth or by phone at 996-1500. Performances are at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 10; Friday, March 12; Saturday, March 13; and at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 14.

‘Annie, Jr.’ at AHMS: Abington Heights Middle School will present the musical “Annie, Jr.” on the school stage, 1555 Newton-Ransom Blvd., at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13. Kate Glidewell has been cast in the lead role of Annie.
Tickets are $5; $3 for students. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the school office or at the door.

‘No, No, Nanette’: The Crimson Company of Dunmore High School will this 1925 musical-comedy on March 18-20 and 25-27. All shows are at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 ($5 for seniors and students) and may be purchased at the door of the DHS auditorium, 300 W. Warren St., Dunmore.

Art Show at Linder: The Linder Gallery at Keystone College will present an exhibition of ceramic sculpture, collage and photographic frescoes by Richmond, Va., artist Cary Loving through March 19 on the Keystone campus in La Plume.

Curves Collecting for Food Banks: Curves of Clarks Summit, 409 N. State St., is collecting non-perishable items and monetary donations for local food banks through March 31.
Members who donate a bag of groceries or make a minimum donation of $30 during the month will receive a free reusable Curves grocery freezer bag. Non-members who do likewise from March 8-20 can join Curves for free. Curves will waive the cost to join.

Chinchilla Hose Pizza Sales: The Chinchilla Hose Co., Shady Lane Road, will sell pizza from 2-7 p.m. every Friday during Lent.
Red, white and white broccoli pizza and soda will be available. Orders can be placed on the day of the sale by calling 586-5726. Walk-ins are welcome. All proceeds benefit needed equipment and operations of the Chinchilla Hose Co. of South Abington Township.

Factoryville Pizza Sales: Factoryville Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary will hold a pizza sale every Friday during Lent from 3-6:30 p.m. Pizza will cost $8 for 12 cuts with extra toppings available for $1 each. Call 945-5769 after 3 p.m. to place an order. Walk-ins are welcome.

Glenburn 4-H Club: The Glenburn 4-H Club is accepting new members.
The club is open to young people from ages 8 through 19 who would either like to learn how to sew or know how and would like to learn new skills.

Learn-to-Swim Classes: The Abington Heights aquatics department will conduct learn-to-swim classes for children 4 and older beginning Monday, April 5. Fees range from $45-75. There are two spring sessions with summer programs planned as well.
This summer, an aqua-tots class for children as young as 3 will be offered. A four-week spring competitive clinic for swimmers age 8 and older with swim team experience is available for $125.
Adult lap swim will continue Monday through Thursday from 8:30-10 p.m. The fee is $2 per visit.
Starting April 9, family swim night will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. on Fridays through May. The fee is $2 per person; a family pass costs $25. All children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper.

Junior Wrestling Championships: Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre will be the site of the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 26 and 27. Helen Keller Day: The annual Helen Keller Day fashion show and luncheon will be held on Sunday, April 11, at St. Mary’s Center in Scranton.
Fashions for men, women and children will be provided by Talbots, Joseph A. Bank, Boscov’s, Small Fryes and Something Blue. Commentary will be provided by WNEP-TV meteorologists Noreen and Tom Clark. In addition to lunch and the fashion show, the event features a variety of vendor tables, basket raffles, door prizes and musical entertainment. Tickets are $15; $10 for children younger than 11.

Bridge Dedication: The John E. Fitzgerald Memorial Bridge will be dedicated at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 30, near the turnpike toll booths in Clarks Summit.

Camp Invention: Children are encouraged to unleash their creative genius at Camp Invention, which is being held at the Abington Heights Middle School from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 19, to Friday, July 23, for students entering grades one through six.

Abington Parents Read: Abington Parents Read, is hosted by the Abington Community Library, 1200 W. Grove St., Clarks Summit. Five different one-hour book discussions are facilitated by the Abington Heights English/reading teachers teaching the books in school.

Pilates Classes at Comm: The Waverly Community House offers morning and evening Pilates classes with Hilary Steinberg in the Scout Room.

Attic Shop Hours: The Attic Shop, an upscale consignment shop, has reopened after renovations.
It is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon and the first and third Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m.
Consignments are taken Wednesdays from 9:30-11:15 a.m. and first and third Wednesdays from 7-8:15 p.m.

SADD Collecting Cell Phones: Abington Heights High School Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) are collecting cell phones at the high school. All cell phones are cleared and programmed with 911 for use by the elderly. The phones may be dropped off in the main office of the high school.

Social Singles Club: A social singles club meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month at Our Lady of Snows Church rectory basement on State Street, Clarks Summit.
